ABOUT MATTY.
Matty Pettitt is the owner and Artistic Director of Matthew Robert Salon in Woodbury, MN. In September 2020 Matty decided he needed to follow his heart and pivot into the role of salon ownership/opening his own salon. He is on his 17th year in the industry and loves every minute of it! Matty’s warm, funny and friendly personality are well known, and that authentic nature united with his talent and craft for hair have helped him form long lasting, meaningful connections with guests.
Matty is proficient in working with all lengths and textures of hair. His objective is to give people haircuts they love to wear that don’t require a ton time to style, but can also coach guests on how to get that refined look. He not only works with his guests texture but strives to give each guest a cut complimenting their bone structure and a color complimenting their natural complexion.
Matty loves doing extensions! Whether for a little fullness, length or both! He specializes in Keratin Fusion and Keratin Microfusion Extensions, invisible beaded hand tied/machine weft extensions and tape-in extensions. Matty excels at giving dimensional color through a variety of techniques including retouching, foiling, balayaging and hairpainting. He also loves helping people embrace their natural “sparkles” if they are trying to shift their coloring toward their natural gray. He also enjoys shifting people out of the darker hair color realm and letting their inner lightness come through while maintaining the integrity of the hair.

Matty has sharpened his unique approach to cutting, coloring, extensions and styling through extensive continuing education he’s taken throughout his career in New York, Chicago, California and Minnesota. He has been fortunate enough to learn from the best of the best: Stephen Adams, Nick Arrojo, Robert Cromeans, Stephanie Kocielski, Angus Mitchell, Colin Caruso and Kari Fuller among others. Matty was formerly an educator at Moxie Hair Salon helping train apprentices and help shape future professionals in this industry under the mentorship of Stephen Adams.

When he’s not in the salon, Matty draws much of his inspiration from travel. Whether its domestic or international he loves seeing creativity in all forms: nature, architecture, fashion, music, relationships and food. Matty has also volunteered with Allina Hospice giving people haircuts and styles in their last days, along with imparting dignity and happiness to these guests. He also has volunteered at psychiatric units to give patients haircuts when they are feeling down. When they ask him what they can give him in return, he tells them to go pay it forward when they are released and help make someone else’s day.
